It's been a while. I have been a busy bee. A lot of good change and things happening.
But oh well.
So I have been meaning to review this 'warung' for a bit. Warungs are traditional eateries where they sell Javanese food. Most of them in town are located towards the North region, called Blauwgrond (Blue ground), but there are a bunch too at Tamanredjo, Commewijne along the road.
My favorite eatery is called Renah. I really don't enjoy javanese food, because I can make my own for the most part. But when I can't make a nasi rames or yellow rice. My hubby and I would visit there. We come here at least twice a month.

Well there is no air conditioning (most of them don't have airco). They have nice plants around where you eat. It tends to be very crowded there, so it is best to go with 2 people. One that drops you off to go look for an empty table and the other should park the car. Yeah that itself is an adventure.
The tables are low and they have a bar where it is difficult to tuck your leg under. Andre always hits his knee against it (he is about 6 feet). Other than that I have no complaints.

Gele rijst |
vegetable, meat and egg side plate if you order rice dishes |
I have eaten once at Sarinah dine in and take out. The portions there are very small over there.
The food in my opinion is mediocre. Not that I am bashing Sarinah, but hey I want bang for my buck. This is not the case at Renah.
The price of a plate is about SRD 15.00 - SRD 20.00 and you get to 'upsize' (extra) which would then vary about SRD 20.00 - SRD 25.00.
My brother in law gets his loempia, it looks like a friggin burrito.
The taste of the food is good, that keeps me coming back especially if I would compare it to an higher end warung as Sarinah.
For a 2 top it will cost at the max SRD 50.00 (with a drink and depending on what you get).
This place is sometimes so packed that they close the gate at 12.45 am on the weekends, because people still come in.
Nasi Rames yummy !!! |
I usually order 'Gele rijst' (yellow rice) or nasi rames. You get a plate where the rice come in and then another plate where you have the meat, vegetables mixed with soy sauce and coconut.
Yummy oh yeah and the pepper sambal come in seperate containers.
I will post the pictures of the food and the menu.
Thanks for reading
p.s These reviews are my own opinion. I have not been paid by anyone.
